Applied Underwriters is hiring an AI Engineer to support infrastructure for deployed AI systems used in underwriting and daily operations.

Responsibilities include joining a small AI engineering team, collaborating with underwriters and operations, adapting products or building new solutions, and deploying and securing AI applications. You'll also contribute to data work across the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, CE, IT, or related field.
• 0–4 years of experience, including internships.
• Strong Python skills and knowledge of SQL.
• Comfort with Linux, the command line, and at least one major cloud platform.
• Proof of work you built and can share (deployed app, data pipeline, monitoring, or CI/CD).
• Curiosity about insurance business and ability to learn from domain experts.
• Clear communication with non-technical colleagues.

• Join a small group of AI Engineers focused on AI infrastructure
• Collaborate directly with underwriters and operations staff
• Adapt existing products to meet user needs, and build new solutions when current options do not fit
• Deploy, run, and secure the systems that AI applications depend on
• Contribute to application development and data work across the team

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field
• 0–4 years of experience, including internships and co-ops
• Strong Python skills and working knowledge of SQL
• Comfort working with Linux, the command line, and at least one major cloud platform
• Proof of work you built and can share, such as:
  • An application you deployed and kept running in the cloud
  • A data pipeline or system integration
  • Monitoring, testing, or reliability controls for an app or model
  • Containerized or automated deployments, such as Docker or a CI/CD pipeline
• Curiosity about how the business operates, plus patience to learn insurance from domain experts
• Clear communication with non-technical colleagues
