Job summary

United Risk is seeking a group of AI Engineers to adapt and build AI-powered apps and workflows used daily by underwriters and operations staff. You'll work directly with underwriters, tailor existing tools, and create new solutions where nothing fits.

This role emphasizes application development, data and infrastructure work, with three senior AI engineers reviewing your work and mentoring you through each project.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related field.
• 0–4 years of experience, including internships and co-ops.
• Strong Python and working SQL.
• Hands-on full-stack development experience.
• Projects could include a full-stack AI application, a document-processing or structured-extraction tool, or an agentic workflow/tool integration.
• Curiosity about how the business runs and patience to learn insurance from experts.
• Clear communication with non-technical colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship AI-powered apps and workflows used daily by underwriters and operations staff.
• Work directly with underwriters to tailor tools and build new solutions where needed.
• Contribute to data and infrastructure work as part of a small AI engineering team.
• Receive mentorship from three senior AI engineers who review your work.

United Risk is a global property and casualty insurance underwriting and distribution platform. It is independently owned and operated by its practice partners and affiliated with Applied Underwriters. Our AI team builds the tools that make those underwriters quicker and smarter. That includes submission ingestion, underwriting workbenches, risk analysis, and automation across the back and middle office. Our focus is to deliver tailored solutions to improve efficiency, while also maintaining our standards to security and compliance.

The Role:

You'll be one of a small group of AI Engineers. You'll work directly with underwriters and operations staff. You'll adapt the products we already run to their needs, and build new ones where nothing fits.

This role leans toward application development: designing and shipping the AI-powered apps and workflows people use every day. Everyone on the team also works on data and infrastructure. Three senior AI engineers review your work and teach you along the way.

Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related field
• 0–4 years of experience, including internships and co-ops
• Strong Python and working SQL
• Hands-on full-stack development experience
• Work you built yourself and can show us. For this role, that means one or more of:
• A full-stack AI application
• A document-processing or structured-extraction tool

• A human review or approval process built into an app
• Curiosity about how the business runs, and the patience to learn insurance from the people who know it
• Clear communication with non-technical colleagues
