Job summary

Software Engineering Institute | Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh seeks an AI-Native Software Engineering Researcher to advance AI-driven approaches for industry-scale software engineering. You will conduct research, publish findings, and help shape strategies for AI-native workflows while collaborating with government, industry, and academia.

Qualifications

• Requires a PhD with at least two years of experience.
• Willing to travel up to 25% to locations outside home site.
• Subject to background investigation and ability to obtain a Department of War security clearance.
• Experience leading research projects in novel areas.
• Experience applying AI to improve research or software engineering progress.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research applying AI to industry-scale software engineering problems.
• Disseminate results to engineering teams and the broader research and software engineering community.
• Help shape AI-native software engineering strategy through exploration of challenges such as metrics and debt.
• Create or adapt practices and workflows to embed software engineering discipline.
• Study cost implications of AI and balance AI with non-AI approaches.
