Job summary

ParentSquare is a Santa Barbara–based company delivering unified communications for schools and families. We’re seeking an AI‑forward Software Engineer who ships impactful code quickly and mentors others. You’ll work remotely while collaborating with product, design, and senior engineers to push our AI‑enabled platform forward.

The role focuses on building scalable features, integrating AI tooling, and improving security for K‑12 environments. DOE salary range is $135,000–$185,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL) beyond ORM usage.
• Experience working with distributed systems and evolving monolithic architectures.
• Experience deploying, monitoring, and operating services on cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS (Aurora, RDS, SQS).
• Proficiency with building and consuming RESTful APIs.

Responsibilities

• Write and ship clear, simple code that makes educators’ lives easier and improves student outcomes.
• Collaborate with product owners, design, and senior engineers to build features cleanly and simply.
• Actively utilize and champion AI development practices to increase sprint velocity and code quality.
• Build and maintain features that operate robustly at scale with strong security for schools.
• Contribute to a unified technical direction and culture focused on excellence and learning.
• Participate in PR reviews and help evolve the architecture of our systems, including monolithic components.
