Job summary

Argonne National Laboratory seeks a Data Services Engineer to enable AI for science by building scalable data management and access services for terabytes to petabytes of scientific data. You will design ingestion, indexing, and search workflows and expose data through high-performance APIs and web applications.

You will collaborate with science teams, academia and industry, contributing to broad scientific initiatives in a highly collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Bachelors and 5+ years of experience, Masters and 3+ years, or PhD and 0+ years, or equivalent.
Degree in computer science, computational science, a physical science, engineering, or related field.
Comprehensive experience programming in Python and/or C/C++.
Experience with at least one data management framework (e.g. OpenMetadata).
Experience with deployment in diverse environments (e.g. Kubernetes, HPC).
Ability to create, maintain, and support high-quality software.
Experience with version control such as git.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Effective written and oral communications skills.
Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork.

Responsibilities

Engineer data services for AI-enabled science and large-scale data management.
Expose terabytes to petabytes of data to users and AI models via web apps and high-performance APIs.
Collaborate with science teams, academia, industry, and other labs to solve complex problems.
Contribute to scientific initiatives through data ingestion, indexing, and search design.
