Job summary

Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking several highly motivated engineering students for our Summer 2027 Internship Program.

This is not a typical "support" internship; you will be integrated into a high-performance team of researchers and engineers working on mission-critical challenges, with AI-Aware focus on integrating Agentic AI and LLMs to augment engineering workflows, accelerate development, and enhance code analysis.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a degree program (CS/CE/EE/SE).
• Ability to work on-site at the SEI Pittsburgh, PA office for Summer 2027.
• Background check clearance required.
• Eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Prototyping & Development: Design and implement software prototypes addressing security and engineering challenges.
• Vulnerability Research: Analyze codebases to identify weaknesses and potential attack vectors.
• Resilience Engineering: Research and implement methods to improve software robustness and system resilience.
• Innovation: Develop new tools, techniques, and automated processes for complex software problems.
• Scholarly Contribution: Potential to co-author research findings for publication.
