Job summary

Backcountry is seeking a Merchandise Planner to own open-to-buy plans, demand forecasting, and inventory optimization across product categories. You will partner with Merchandising to drive sales, margin, and inventory turn while delivering insights to leadership.

Within six months, you will own the planning cadence, lead Open-to-Buy reviews with senior leadership, and become the go-to analytical partner for merchandising. This lean team requires fast, end-to-end ownership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years in assortment, demand, or merchandise planning; 2+ years in retail ecommerce.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with retail math aptitude.
• High proficiency in Excel (Pivot, VLOOKUP) and quick to learn new tools.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for varied audiences.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and work cross-functionally.
• Flexible and able to handle changing priorities and high workload.

Responsibilities

• Develop merchandise plans aligned with goals and market trends for multiple categories.
• Lead Open-to-Buy meetings and monthly reviews with senior leadership.
• Forecast demand using historical data, trends, and insights to drive inventory strategies.
• Monitor inventory, sell-through, and optimize turnover while minimizing stockouts.
• Analyze sales performance, margins, and product profitability; provide actionable recommendations.
• Manage division financials to meet sales, margin, and inventory targets.
• Produce structured reporting deliverables following best practices.
• Identify opportunities to maximize sales with data-driven recommendations.
