Intone Inc. is seeking a contract AI/automation engineer to modernize legacy applications and upgrade infrastructure and security.

The role emphasizes building autonomous AI agents, dependency-aware upgrades, and IAM/SSO modernization using tools like Claude Code and Java-based workflows. You will work remotely across the United States, contributing to critical P1 incident recovery patterns and scalable automation across enterprise systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Write, instruct, and continuously refine AI agents and skills to automate legacy application modernization and infrastructure upgrades.
• Design and engineer AI agents to handle dependency-by-dependency upgrades, including Java runtime migrations (e.g., JDK 17 to JDK 25) and legacy Linux platform transitions.
• Build AI agents capable of scanning and understanding legacy applications, generating technical specifications, and executing infrastructure changes with minimal human intervention.
• Lead the security and identity modernization track, evaluating applications to determine whether they require technology stack upgrades, security upgrades, or both.
• Architect solutions to transition applications from legacy security and authentication models (LDP, ISD) to modern Okta integration using AI-driven automation.
• Map downstream system impacts before changes and ensure AI agents account for interconnected enterprise systems and dependencies.
• Engineer AI agents to complete 90% of upgrade work autonomously, leaving the remaining 10% for human verification and validation.
• Work with Claude Code and Java-based tools to implement agentic solutions.

We are building internal AI agents to automate the modernization and security upgrades of legacy applications. This is a contract role (6+ months) focused on two primary modernization tracks: infrastructure and core technology upgrades, and security and identity modernization. • Demonstrated experience navigating high‑stakes, critical system failures (P1 incidents) and applying lessons learned to system design.
• Strong understanding of AI agent design, prompt engineering, and autonomous task execution.
• Proficiency in Java and familiarity with Java runtime environments and dependency management.
• Experience with infrastructure modernization, including platform upgrades and legacy system migrations.
• Preferred
• Experience with Claude Code or similar AI code generation tools.
• Background in identity and access management (IAM), authentication protocols (LDP), and modern SSO solutions like Okta.
• Track record of designing and scaling automation solutions across multiple legacy applications or systems.
