Job summary

Leidos is seeking a summer intern with a technical background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Systems Engineering to contribute to the SMIT program for NMCI. You will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to prototype AI-enabled automation and document architecture and security considerations.

The role offers exposure to Python-based automation, risk assessments, and cybersecurity accreditation in a mission-critical, remotely distributed environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or related field.
• Experience with programming or scripting, preferably Python.
• Understanding of system architecture concepts, data flows, or software design fundamentals.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support development and prototyping of AI agents and AI-enabled automation solutions.
• Assist with documenting system architecture, data flows, and security considerations.
• Work with systems engineers and ISSEs on risk assessments and control implementation.
• Translate technical designs into RMF/ATO compliant documentation.
• Develop Python-based automation or scripts used by AI agents or workflows.
• Test, validate, and refine AI or automation solutions before production use.
• Contribute to RPA initiatives to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily scrums and sprint planning.
• Contribute to backlog items, technical docs, and process improvements.
• Collaborate with a geographically distributed (remote) team.
