Job summary

Invenergy in Chicago is seeking an AI Cybersecurity Engineer to design, secure, and operationalize AI‑enabled cybersecurity capabilities across the enterprise. This hands‑on role blends deep cybersecurity expertise with applied artificial intelligence and machine learning knowledge to detect threats, secure AI systems, and defend against AI‑enabled attacks.

The position is hands‑on and execution‑focused, owning design, implementation, tuning, and continuous improvement of AI‑driven security

Qualifications

  • Must have 7+ years in cybersecurity engineering, detection engineering, or security operations.
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI/ML techniques in security use cases.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud, identity, endpoint, network and data security.
  • Proficiency with SIEM platforms, telemetry pipelines, and detection engineering tools.
  • Ability to operate independently and deliver production‑quality security capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain AI/ML‑driven threat detection and response across cloud, endpoint, identity, and network environments.
  • Defend against AI‑enabled and AI‑targeted attacks, including prompt injection and data leakage.
  • Tune detections for precision and efficacy across security platforms.
  • Define security controls for AI systems including access, data protection, and inference security.
  • Collaborate with data science and engineering teams for secure AI lifecycle practices.
  • Assess risks from third‑party AI platforms and translate policy into technical controls.
  • Map AI security to frameworks like NIST CSF, MITRE ATT&CK, and OWASP AI/LLM Top 10.
  • Produce architecture diagrams and implementation guidance for audits and exec reviews.
  • Support incident response involving AI‑driven threats or AI system compromise.
  • Lead PoC efforts for applying AI to detection engineering and security automation.
  • Communicate AI security risks and mitigations to technical and executive audiences.
  • Serve as a technical mentor without people management duties.

Position Overview

The AI Cybersecurity Engineer is a principal subject‑matter expert responsible for designing, securing, and operationalizing AI‑enabled cybersecurity capabilities across the enterprise. This role blends deep cybersecurity expertise with applied artificial intelligence and machine learning knowledge to detect threats, secure AI systems, and defend against AI‑enabled attacks. The position is hands‑on and execution‑focused, owning design, implementation, tuning, and continuous improvement of AI‑driven security controls while partnering closely with Security Operations, Cloud, Identity, Data, and Engineering teams. This role has no people‑management responsibilities but serves as a technical authority and trusted advisor in AI security.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain AI/ML‑driven threat detection and response capabilities across cloud, endpoint, identity, and network environments.
  • Detect and defend against AI‑enabled and AI‑targeted attacks, including prompt injection, model poisoning, data leakage, adversarial machine learning, and automated social engineering.
  • Engineer high‑fidelity detections across SIEM and security platforms and continuously tune for precision and efficacy.
  • Define and implement security controls for AI systems, including model access, training data protection, inference security, and logging.
  • Partner with data science and engineering teams to ensure secure AI lifecycle practices.
  • Assess and mitigate risks associated with third‑party and vendor AI platforms.
  • Translate enterprise security policy into enforceable technical controls for AI workloads.
  • Map AI security capabilities to frameworks such as NIST CSF, MITRE ATT&CK, MITRE ATLAS, and OWASP AI/LLM Top 10.
  • Produce architecture diagrams, security patterns, and implementation guidance suitable for audit and executive review.
  • Support incident response involving AI‑driven threats or AI system compromise.
  • Research emerging AI threat techniques and translate findings into preventive and detective controls.
  • Lead proof‑of‑concept efforts for applying AI to detection engineering and security automation.
  • Communicate AI security risks and mitigations to technical teams, risk leaders, and executives.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and subject matter expert without formal people management duties.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, detection engineering, or security operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in AI or ML techniques in security use cases.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud, identity, endpoint, network, and data security.
  • Proficiency with SIEM platforms, telemetry pipelines, and detection engineering tools.
  • Ability to operate independently and deliver production quality security capabilities.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience securing large language models (LLMs) or AI platforms in production.
  • Familiarity with secure AI development or MLOps security practices.
  • Scripting or automation experience (Python, PowerShell).
  • Experience in regulated or highly audited environments.
Base Pay

$137,000.00 - $160,000.00 USD Annual

Bonus: 25% - 40%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
