Job summary

LatchBio is seeking an AI Biologist to join the Rare Disease team and push the frontier of AI-assisted biology. You will help translate molecular and clinical evidence into actionable decisions for patients, clinicians, and researchers.

The role involves structuring large omics and clinical datasets, forming data partnerships, and shaping new data workflows with engineers. A strong background in translational biology and AI-enabled analysis is essential.

Qualifications

AI Biologist - Rare Disease

As molecular data generation and frontier model intelligence grows, new approaches to data analysis are needed across the biotech industry.

We're seeking an AI Biologist to join our Rare Disease team to explore the frontier of what AI assistance can enable in rare disease biology.

About the Role

You will contribute to Latch’s benchmarks, strategy, and research on agents that can navigate, diagnose, and aid research toward rare disease. We are especially interested in teaching agents to translate molecular and clinical evidence into decisions with utility for patients, advocacy groups, clinicians, drug developers, and scientists. Some of what you may do on the day to day:

• Structure, curate, and find insights from extensive genomic, phenotypic, pedigree, transcriptomic, and longitudinal clinical data

• Navigate data partnerships

• Evaluate realistic patient case scenarios spanning the diagnostic journey

• Partner with software engineers to define and execute new data workflows and benchmarks
  

Requirements

• Master's, PhD, or equivalent experience in a relevant biological or quantitative field

• 3+ years hands-on experience in basic or translational research, clinical genomics, rare disease diagnostics, or rare disease therapeutics, ideally as demonstrated through publications or industry work

• Deep expertise with therapeutics discovery, biological mechanism, or clinical practice in a subset of rare diseases

• Experience interpreting data in biological context and identifying confounders, technical artifacts, and limitations of underlying experiments

• Proficiency in Python/R for biological data analysis or visualization

Nice to Have

• Experience with variant interpretation, variant calling, or genomic analysis

• Familiarity with commonly used rare disease knowledge bases and workflows

• Proficiency in AI agent use

Compensation & Logistics

• 1099 (or W8-BEN) contract, 40 hrs/week, no end date

• Fully performance-based pay: $120K-$180K, uncapped upside. 2x quota = 2x pay.

• 2-4 week paid ramp - full OTE from day one

• Remote (globally), hybrid, or onsite in SF (onsite preferred)

• Work authorization: OPT visa holders only (not STEM Extension)

• Onsite perks: 2x free meals/day, waterfront office (China Basin), monthly parking (based on availability)

• Candidates with all of the above qualifications + proven management skills will be eligible for more senior positions
