Skyworks Cedar Rapids Design Center seeks a motivated AI Automation & Software Developer Co-op for Winter/Spring 2027. You will work beside a mentor, building tools that help engineers design the next generation of cellular phones while gaining hands-on experience in AI-assisted development.

Based in Cedar Rapids, IA, the role focuses on understanding engineering problems, prototyping workflows, and deploying AI to accelerate circuit design and verification.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in BS, MS or PhD program and available January–June 2027.
• Background in software development and strong communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, UNIX, Python, VS Code, and AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Learn and apply AI tools to write code efficiently.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to identify bottlenecks.
• Develop or evaluate software solutions to improve workflows.
• Assist design engineers in deploying AI-driven methods.
• Support workflows by adding features and fixing bugs.
• Create training materials and train engineers on new workflows.

If you are a motivated student with skills and interest in software development and AI, Skyworks Cedar Rapids Design Center is looking for you! You will work side by side with a mentor and grow your skills working on tools that will help engineers design the next generation of cellular phones. Cedar Rapids, IA is a vibrant city with low traffic, low cost of living, quality schools, but plenty to do in the form of great restaurants, sports, live music, theatre, hiking, biking and more! Get your foot in the door to one of the most cutting edge and impactful industries helping people connect across the globe. Your job function will include but not be limited to communicating with engineering teams to understand their problems, develop a new workflow to solve their problems, create new software programs or explore existing software options to help engineers with daily tasks. Develop ideas to deploy AI to help engineers design and verify circuits in a fraction of the time.

Responsibilities

• Learn, evaluate and utilize AI tools to write code more efficiently
• Communicate with engineering teams to discover inefficiencies and bottlenecks
• Create new and/or evaluate existing software solutions to develop workflows removing inefficiencies and bottlenecks
• Work with design engineers to determine how AI can be deployed to help in their work
• Support existing workflows by adding requested features and fixing bugs
• Create training documentation and train engineers to use new workflows
• Display a positive, can-do attitude
• Must have ability to complete Co-op term prior to graduation

Required Experience and Skills

• Available to work onsite in Cedar Rapids January-June 2027
• Must be currently enrolled in a BS, MS or PhD program
• Background in software development
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Experience with Microsoft Office tools, UNIX, Python, VScode, AI tools

The typical pay range for an Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $26.00 - $47.50 per hour and for a Non-Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $22.50 - $42.00 per hour. Starting pay will depend on level of education, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S.
