Position Description:
AHS Head Boys Lacrosse Coach (non-certified)
Goal: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship while providing an educational environment which enhances the development of the whole student‑athlete.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.
- Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated.
- Must meet all TSSAA guidelines/preparation for coaches.
- Previous coaching experience.
- Must be physically and mentally able to perform responsibilities and duties.
- Additional qualifications acceptable to Superintendent.
Responsibilities
- Use sound coaching techniques in all phases of the program.
- Organize safe and effective practice sessions.
- Develop and delegate specific job tasks for assistants if in a head coaching role.
- Develop and adhere to conditioning and injury prevention program.
- Work with Principal/Athletic Director on equipment accountability system.
- Establish working rapport with Principal and report directly to them.
- Adhere to all district and school policies regarding athletics.
- Build sportsmanship among players, coaches, and fans.
- Model sportsmanship and enforce it among players.
- Establish good public relations in school and community.
- Coach individual participants to develop skills and potential.
- Motivate team and individual players.
- Command players' respect.
- Instill positive attitude toward self, team, and sport.
- Communicate expectations to team and players.
- Develop fair and consistent discipline system.
- Follow proper procedures in handling discipline issues.
- Cooperate with maintenance, transportation, and other staff supporting athletics.
- Draft and submit sport budget for coming year.
- Arrange contact with college recruiters.
- Demonstrate positive attitude and enthusiasm for coaching.
- Ensure coaching staff complete required trainings.
- Maintain eligibility, emergency, insurance, equipment records.
- Attend clinics, workshops, and professional organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Principal/Superintendent.
Supervisory Capacity
Will supervise assistant coaches and student athletes at practices and competitions.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Outdoors on athletic field, locker room, and facilities.
- Exposure to varied weather conditions.
- Physical demands include running, sprinting, changing direction, jumping, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing and walking for extended periods.
Other Duties
Coaches maintain practice and game schedule per TSSAA bylaws.
