Job summary

Alameda Health System is seeking a Nursing Services Technician (NST) to support nursing activities across units and help prioritize patient care needs. The NST will assist RNs, perform limited documentation, and maintain safety and patient rights as part of daily duties.

The role emphasizes teamwork, continuity of care, and responding effectively in emergencies while adhering to hospital policies and in-service education requirements. A strong customer-service approach is essential.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year experience in an acute care hospital.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Nurse's Aide training course, or after 100 hours of clinical experience while enrolled in an RN or LVN program, or a corpsman in the Navy and able to provide a skills checklist.
  • BLS - Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred California certification available.

  • Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
  • Assists with identifying learning needs and reports to the RN for appropriate measures.
  • Performs limited documentation duties on units and in patient records.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patients' rights and safety.
  • Responds to emergency patient situations calmly and informs appropriate persons.
  • Awareness of Nursing Department standards and administrative policies.
  • Recognizes personal educational needs and pursues in-service and continuing education.
  • Participates in Unit goals and QA activities.
  • Provides excellent customer service to patients, family, physicians and staff.

SUMMARY:

The AHD Nursing Services Technician (NST) is responsible for the nursing support functions on all units; thereby, serving the patent needs of each area.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

  • 1. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and continuous manner. Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.
  • 2. Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
  • 3. Assists with the identification of patient/significant other's learning needs and reports this need to the RN so that appropriate measures can be implemented.
  • 4. Performs limited documentation duties on units and in patient records.
  • 5. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patients/significant others' rights as identified within the institution.
  • 6. Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
  • 7. Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations by remaining calm and informing appropriate persons.
  • 8. Demonstrates awareness and has working knowledge of Nursing Department and Generic Structure Standards and Administrative Policies.
  • 9. Recognizes your own limitations and educational needs, improving knowledge and skills by participating in in-service and continuing education classes.
  • 10. Participates in Unit goal formation and assists in projects to achieve goals. Participates in QA activities.
  • 11. Flexible in responding to Nursing Department staff needs. Provides excellent customer service to all customers, including patients, family members, Physicians, nursing staff and all other ancillary personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licenses and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.
