Job summary

Vylor, a leader in crop science, seeks an Agronomy Specialist for our Monroe, LA team. You will support high-priority programs, conduct experiments, and collect quality data to inform Advancement decisions.

The role emphasizes field work with cotton, corn, and soybean testing, drone operations, data management, and safety compliance. Some travel and overnight work are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with up to 2 years industry related experience.
• Experience with agricultural equipment (tractors, planters, combines) and on-farm usage.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and computer skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member.
• Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
• FAA Part 107 drone license required or ability to obtain.
• Clean driving record; visa sponsorship not available.

Responsibilities

• Set up experiments and perform data collection and analyses for cotton, corn, and soybean testing sites.
• Plan field locations, flight plans, and schedule drone flights in coordination with the team.
• Maintain collaboration between Station Ops Lead and team to reach research goals.
• Support seed lab activities, including data manipulation and inventory tasks.
• Participate in safety committees and enforce center-wide safety programs.
• Assist with inventory of chemicals and supplies as needed.
• Operate farm equipment and monitor preventive maintenance.
• Travel overnight during planting and harvest periods.

Vylor has an exciting opportunity for an Agronomy Specialist to join our team in Monroe, LA. This Agronomy Specialist will work with the testing team to provide technical support on high-priority programs. The Agronomy Specialist ensures the work location functions efficiently by performing a variety of duties across a range of procedures when preparing and conducting experiments to produce quality data to support Advancement decisions.

Responsibilities – What You’ll Do

• Works with station employees to help set up experiments and perform advanced data analyses, works with field contacts for cotton, corn and soybean testing sites, helps prepare and sort seed packets into planting order, helps to plant, take notes and upload data using advanced technology, monitor in-field issues, harvest plots to completion, and exercise independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.
• Works with Ops Lead and agronomy team to plan locations based on restricted flight areas, create flight plans based on trait protocols, monitor GDU’s for flight timings, and schedule drone flights.
• Works with team members to maintain collaborative contacts between Station Ops Lead and other team members to ensure research goals are met to expectations.
• Have a general understanding/interest in learning about the application/use of genetic marker data, applied agricultural biotechnology, statistics, use of GPS/GIS systems, and have an open mindset for learning beyond current experiences and knowledge.
• Help with seed lab activities including spreadsheet manipulation, seed cleaning, sorting, inventorying, and supervision of hourly employees.
• Will be an integrated member of the Monroe, LA Team, participate in regional safety committees and audits, administer center-wide safety programs, and comply with all center and company policies.
• May be requested to help maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments by the ML Project.
• Operate all types of farm equipment and minimize down time by correcting issues quickly and staying current with preventive maintenance.
• Periods of extended work hours and overnight travel during planting and harvest will be required.

Problem Solving

• Identify improvements in procedures and protocols within allotted time constraints.
• Identify appropriate and efficient uses of ML Impact and Research Project resources.
• Ability to calibrate spray booms and complete basic herbicide rate calculations.

Decision Making

• Make daily decisions associated with conducting experiments that reflect Company Policies.
• Decide priority of work activities to meet assigned deadlines, balancing all assigned projects.

Qualifications – What You’ll Bring

• Must be capable of doing physical lifting (up to 50lbs).
• Must have or be able to attain a FAA Part 107 drone license.
• Must have a clean driving record.
