Job summary

MNL, a full-service ecological restoration company, seeks an Agricultural Service Technician/Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain our diverse agricultural and heavy equipment fleet. You will work both in the shop and in the field on tractors, loaders, and implements, owning repairs from diagnosis to completion.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of hands-on experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and knowledge of diesel/gasoline engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining agricultural, heavy, or construction equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to diagnose root causes rather than relying on parts replacement.
• Working knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic, electrical, drivetrains, and other major equipment systems.
• Experience using service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, diagnostic software, meters, gauges, and other diagnostic resources and equipment.
• Ability to document repairs and maintain work‑order records.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Agricultural Service Technician/Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain the agricultural and heavy equipment used throughout our operations. You'll work on a diverse fleet that includes tractors, skid steers, compact track loaders, wheel loaders, utility vehicles, implements, attachments, and other diesel- and gasoline-powered equipment.

This is a hands-on position for an experienced technician who understands the complexity of agricultural and heavy equipment and enjoys troubleshooting beyond simply replacing parts. We're looking for someone who can confidently work through mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic issues, identify the root cause of equipment problems, and complete quality repairs that maximize equipment reliability and uptime.

You will perform both shop and field repairs, take ownership of assigned work from diagnosis through completion, and communicate closely with Shop leadership when additional repairs, parts, or other issues are identified.

What You Will Do

• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic equipment problems.
• Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, drivetrains, brakes, steering, PTO systems, undercarriages, and related components.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, motors, and auxiliary hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot starting, charging, wiring, sensor, control-module, and CAN-bus issues.
• Use service manuals, schematics, diagnostic software, meters, gauges, and other testing equipment to identify the root cause of equipment failures.

Keep Equipment Ready to Work

• Perform preventive maintenance, including fluid and filter changes, lubrication, inspections, and adjustments.
• Complete preventive maintenance and equipment condition inspections to identify concerns before they become larger problems.
• Perform repairs both in the shop and in the field based on operational needs.
• Complete quality repairs efficiently while helping minimize equipment downtime and repeat repairs.

Own the Work

• Take ownership of assigned repairs from initial diagnosis through completion.
• Accurately document the complaint, cause, and correction along with labor, parts, fluids, equipment hours, and recommended repairs.
• Communicate repair status, additional findings, parts needs, and potential delays promptly.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe service bay and work area.
• Support other technicians and help newer team members when appropriate.

What You Will Need To Be Successful

• 2+ years of experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining agricultural, heavy, or construction equipment, or a comparable combination of technical training and hands‑on experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose root causes rather than relying primarily on parts replacement.
• Working knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, and other major equipment systems.
• Experience using service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, diagnostic software, meters, gauges, and other diagnostic resources and equipment.
• Ability to safely use hand, power, pneumatic, and diagnostic tools.
• Ability to accurately document repairs and maintain complete work‑order records.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned repairs from diagnosis through completion, and contribute effectively as part of the Shop team.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles as required.
• Diesel, Agricultural Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, or similar technical education or manufacturer training is preferred.
• Advanced hydraulic, electrical, and electronic diagnostic experience is strongly preferred.
• Field‑service experience is preferred.
• Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.

Schedule

This is a full‑time position with a typical schedule of Monday‑Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Work is performed both in MNL's shop and in the field, so travel may be required.

The pay range for this role is:

38 - 45 USD per hour (Otsego Headquarters)
