Job summary

The Shelly Company, a CRH company, seeks an Operations Supervisor in Ohio to oversee above-ground and underground aggregates mining crews, manage personnel, equipment, trucking and materials, and drive safe, efficient production.

You will ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DEP and Shelly safety practices while coordinating with Quality Control to meet specifications. A Bachelor’s degree or Mine Foreman certification is preferred; willingness to travel and work nights/weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Maintain a certification as a Mine Foreman from the Ohio Department of Mineral Resource Management.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.

Responsibilities

• Plan, assign, and direct work for mining operations, including above-ground and underground crews.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (OSHA, MSHA, DEP) and safety practices.
• Supervise facility personnel and enforce company policies and safety rules.
• Coordinate with Quality Control to meet specification requirements.
• Travel and work nights/weekends as required; report to the job site on time.

Position Overview

Oversee and direct operations to include above ground and underground aggregates mining crew, including personnel, equipment, trucking, and materials.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Ensure that all operations are in full compliance with federal and state regulations, including OSHA, MSHA, DEP, etc.
• Supervise and direct facility personnel to ensure proper placement of resources.
• Ensure compliance with The Shelly Company Manual of Safety Practices & Procedures.
• Enforce company policies, procedures, and work rules, discipline when necessary and document employee performance issues.
• Enforce company safety rules and conduct safety meetings, including toolbox talks; ensure facilities are operating in a safe manner.
• Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, personnel, and production problems, in a timely and effective manner.
• Establish correct field calculations and communicate cost yields and accountabilities.
• Collaborate and communicate regularly with Quality Control to assure specification requirements.
• Track and record fuel usage, hour meter readings, and mileage reporting for equipment.

• Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
• Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
• Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
• Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
• Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
• Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
• Assist with various training initiatives, as necessary.
• Attend relevant conferences/seminars/shows (with Manager approval) relative to technological advancements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Fulfill supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Planning, assigning, and directing work.
• Willingness to develop subordinates' technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
• Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.
• Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
• Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Maintain a certification as a Mine Foreman from the Ohio Department of Mineral Resource Management

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
