Market-facing title: Lead AI Engineer / Technical Architect.
Purpose: Own the reference architecture while remaining hands-on in critical implementation, code review, and engineering mentorship.
Core responsibilities
- Define application architecture across model access, orchestration, retrieval, data, APIs, identity, and observability.
- Build initial reference components and review production code.
- Set standards for structured output, state, memory, asynchronous processing, testing, and failure handling.
- Establish evaluation, regression, security, and cost/latency practices.
- Mentor four early-career engineers through pairing, design review, and code review.
- Partner with the Product Manager to convert user workflows into technically feasible product increments.
Required evidence
- 7-9 years total experience; keep maximum experience under 10 years for this mandate.
- Production application and API design, cloud delivery, containers, and CI/CD.
- Hands-on RAG, tool/function calling, agent orchestration and model evaluation.
- Current coding evidence and experience guiding less-experienced engineers.
Required Capabilities
- Software and systems architecture- Coherent service, data, API, state, and failure design
- Hands-on coding recency- Can implement, debug and review code live
- Reliability, security, and evaluation- Test, tracing, guardrail, and recovery strategy
- Cloud/data/integration- Practical platform and enterprise integration decisions
- Mentoring and product judgment- Raises team capability and makes pragmatic trade-offs
