Job summary

IBM's EDA team in Austin is seeking early-career engineers passionate about software, AI, and semiconductor design. As an EDA Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and deploy tools used across IBM's processor and computing systems.

Work includes AI-driven automation, tool development for logic design, verification, timing analysis, and collaboration with IBM hardware and software teams. This role is hybrid in Austin.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with object-oriented programming languages such as C++, Java, Rust, or similar.
• Experience with Python or other scripting languages.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and digital logic design.
• Coursework or project experience with AI or Agent Engineering.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to develop efficient algorithms and software solutions.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in collaborative, fast-paced engineering environments.
• Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• AI-Driven Automation: Develop and deploy Agentic AI and machine learning solutions that automate complex chip design workflows, including synthesis and place-and-route.
• Tool Development: Build and maintain software tools that support logic design, functional verification, timing analysis, and physical design.
• Algorithm Engineering: Design and implement efficient algorithms and large-scale software systems that improve design quality and accelerate chip development.
• Collaborative Innovation: Partner with hardware and software engineers across IBM to deliver solutions that shape the future of computing.
