Job summary

Applied Materials, Inc. seeks an early-career Computational Physicist to join a team developing physics-based simulations and AI-enabled workflows for semiconductor equipment.

You will model thermal and plasma processes, build surrogate models, and collaborate across process, hardware, and software teams to translate insights into engineering decisions. This role emphasizes high-performance computing, large-scale simulation, and applying machine learning to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in computational physics or multiphysics modeling.
• Strong background in applied mathematics and computational methods.
• Strong programming experience in Python and/or C++, with scientific applications experience.
• Experience with machine learning for scientific applications.

Responsibilities

• Apply computational modeling to semiconductor process and equipment development challenges (thermal, plasma, deposition, etch).
• Develop and improve physics-based simulation capabilities and engineering workflows.
• Use data to analyze process behavior and support design decisions.
• Develop reduced-order, surrogate, and ML models for efficiency or predictivity.
• Build AI-enabled tools and workflows for engineers to set up and run models.
• Collaborate with process, hardware, experimental, and software teams to translate insights into decisions.
• Verify and validate modeling capabilities using benchmarks and data.
• Contribute to internal modeling software, workflows, and documentation.
• Communicate results clearly to scientists, engineers, leadership, and customers.
