Job summary

The NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is seeking an Agency Attorney in the Fair Hearings & Compliance Unit (FHCU) within the Office of the General Counsel to represent the Commissioner before NYS tribunals and courts on indicated reports, foster care, and related matters.

Under supervision, the attorney will handle complex litigation, prepare witnesses and evidence, draft pleadings, conduct legal research, and collaborate with ACS programs and NYS OCFS.

Qualifications

• Admittance to the New York State Bar and license in good standing.
• One year of legal experience after bar admission, or six months as Agency Attorney Intern.
• Ability to manage a significant caseload and diverse assignments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a significant caseload of complex and/or sensitive cases.
• Prepare and maintain case files and documents for court appearances.
• Interview witnesses, review records, and assess evidence admissibility.
• Liaise with ACS programs and NYS OCFS representatives.
• Draft pleadings, motions and memoranda per standard procedures.
• Conduct legal research and monitor relevant case law and regs.
