Job summary

West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA is seeking dynamic, reliable staff to work weekdays in a state licensed after-school program, 20–26 hours per week. The role focuses on supervising children and delivering engaging activities aligned with YMCA values and safety standards.

Responsibilities include planning culturally relevant activities, supporting distance learning, attending staff meetings, assisting during events, and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Ability to provide direct care to school-age children while reinforcing health and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to support children with their distance learning assignments being done remotely at the YMCA.
  • Ability to guide structured Clubs and enrichment activities.
  • Commitment to support and further anti-racist work as an organization.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and training within 30 days of hire date.
  • EEC training/registration prior to hire date.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

  • Follows YMCA and EEC policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Works at special events (i.e., Snow Day Program, Holiday Programs) and vacation week programs, if needed.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid and/or CPR.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a state licensed out-of-school time program operating full‑day programs. It provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
