Job summary

The Backyard Playschool Center is seeking a high-energy afternoon assistant for our Ladybug Room, helping with 2- and 3-year-olds after school hours until 5:30 p.m. This part-time role is ideal for a student in the Flex program or an adult seeking a few daily hours.

You don’t need to know everything about childcare; you’ll learn on the job, jump in to help, and enjoy a busy, playful room with lots of activity.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Dependable and able to arrive on time for afternoon shifts.
• Comfortable working with active 2- and 3-year-old children.
• Able to lift and carry children and classroom materials.
• Able to bend, squat, kneel, and sit on the floor.
• Able to spend extended periods of time playing and working at a child’s level.
• Able to stand and move around the classroom for much of the shift.
• Comfortable assisting with diapering, potty training, handwashing, and other basic care routines.
• Willing to help with classroom cleanup, sanitizing, and end-of-day duties.
• Patient, positive, and able to stay calm in a busy classroom; able to follow directions and work as part of a teaching team.
• Must be willing to complete any required childcare training, background checks, or other employment requirements.

About This Role

The Backyard Playschool Center is looking for a high-energy, dependable person to join our Ladybug Room in the afternoons and help us wrangle our amazing 2- and 3-year-olds!

This is a part-time position working afternoons until we close around 5:30 p.m. It would be a great fit for a high school student in the Flex program or an adult who is looking for just a few hours of work each day.

You don’t have to know everything about childcare when you walk through the door. We’re looking for someone who is willing to learn, can jump in and help, enjoys young children, and isn’t afraid of a little noise, mess, or silliness.

If you have energy, patience, and can keep up with a room full of curious 2- and 3-year-olds, we’d love to talk to you!

What You’ll Do

Our afternoon assistant is an extra set of hands during a busy part of the day. You’ll help our teachers with things like:

• Playing and interacting with the children
• Helping with afternoon routines and transitions
