Kids for the Future is seeking an Aftercare Lead to oversee daily aftercare operations for preschool and elementary students. The role includes supervising staff, coordinating schedules, and ensuring safety and high-quality activities through dismissal and pickup.

The incumbent will foster a nurturing, organized environment, align with school policies, and communicate with families while addressing program needs under a Christ-centered framework.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily aftercare program from student dismissal through parent pickup.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing and structured environment for students.
  • Plan and oversee age-appropriate activities and homework-support.
  • Coordinate staff schedules and ensure adequate supervision.
  • Monitor attendance and ensure students are released to authorized individuals.
  • Oversee staff training, coaching and performance feedback.
  • Ensure safety policies, confidentiality and program procedures are followed

Job Summary

The Aftercare Lead provides direction and oversight of the school's aftercare program for preschool and elementary-aged students. Responsible for the daily operation of the program, including student supervision, staff scheduling and oversight, parent communication, activities, safety, attendance, and overall program quality.

The Program Lead creates a safe, nurturing, organized, and engaging environment that reflects the school's mission, values, policies, and expectations. Oversees, coaches, and monitors aftercare workers and collaboratively supports the Principal and school staff to address student, family, staffing, and program needs. The position is performed in classrooms, gymnasiums, playgrounds, cafeterias, and other school facilities and may require indoor and outdoor supervision in varying weather conditions.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Program Oversight & Operations
  • Oversee the daily aftercare program from student dismissal through parent/guardian pickup
  • Establish and maintain a safe, positive, nurturing, and structured environment
  • Plan and oversee age-appropriate recreational, educational, enrichment, and homework-support activities
  • Develop daily routines, procedures, and expectations for students and staff
  • Coordinate staff schedules to ensure appropriate student supervision and program coverage
  • Monitor attendance and ensure students are released only to authorized individuals
  • Oversee the cleanliness, organization, and appropriate use of aftercare spaces and equipment
  • Ensure staff follow school policies, program procedures, and safety requirements
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student, family, and staff information
  • Identify program needs and communicate recommendations to the Principal
Staff Oversight
  • Oversee, coach, and monitor aftercare staff to ensure responsibilities and program expectations are met
  • Provide orientation, training, guidance, and ongoing feedback to staff
  • Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, conduct, and adherence to program procedures
  • Address day-to-day staff concerns and communicate significant performance or personnel concerns to the Principal
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and professional staff environment
  • Lead or participate in aftercare staff meetings and required training
Student Care, Safety & Behavior
  • Oversee the supervision and well-being of all students throughout aftercare hours
  • Promote positive behavior through consistent, age-appropriate guidance and classroom management
  • Respond appropriately to student conflicts, behavioral concerns, injuries, illnesses, and emergencies
  • Ensure snacks are provided according to school policies and that staff are aware of allergies and dietary restrictions
  • Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and other required program records
  • Administer basic first aid as needed and ensure incidents are documented and reported according to school procedures
  • Ensure students are treated with respect, kindness, dignity, and fairness
Parent & Family Communication
  • Serve as the primary aftercare contact for parents and guardians
  • Communicate professionally regarding student needs, behavior, attendance, incidents, pickup concerns, and program information
  • Address family concerns in a timely and professional manner and involve the Principal as appropriate
  • Build positive relationships with families and promote confidence in the aftercare program
Spiritual Formation
  • Encourage spiritual development through prayer, Bible lesson, and intentional faith integration during care
  • Model Christian values by fostering a Christ-centered environment
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment through active participation in a local Bible-based church
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Required
  • Understands child development and age-appropriate behavior
  • Ability to manage groups of children and maintain a safe, structured environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while prioritizing student safety and well-being
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in challenging situations and emergencies
  • Ability to provide constructive coaching and feedback to staff
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, welcoming, and supportive environment for all students
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train, oversee, and coach staff effectively
  • Dependable, patient, professional, organized, and enthusiastic
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; lift and carry up to 25 pounds; bend, stoop, kneel, and participate in indoor and outdoor activities; and respond quickly to student needs
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Education or child-development coursework preferred.
  • 2 years’ experience working with preschool and/or elementary-aged children
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification
