Job summary

The New York Public Library is seeking Tutors for the NYPL After School program at Tremont Library to provide free, drop-in homework help and enrichment for children ages 6-12. Tutors work 16 hours per week, Monday through Thursday afternoons, with four-hour shifts scheduled between 2:00 and 7:00 PM.

Orientation workshops occur August 31–September 11, and the program year runs September 10, 2026–June 9, 2027.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in an undergraduate program with at least two years completed.
• Prior experience tutoring or teaching children/teens.
• Ability to engage children ages 6–12 and communicate with parents and caregivers.

Responsibilities

• Oversee After School homework help and enrichment at Tremont Library Monday–Thursday 2–7 PM.
• Welcome and engage 6–12 year olds in drop-in activities.
• Deliver academic support across math, reading, science, and social studies.
• Coordinate attendance, statistics, and program supplies.
• Collaborate with branch staff and Teen Reading Ambassadors.
