The After School Program Teacher Aide's responsibility is to design, plan, and implement a comprehensive, educational after school program to promote the physical, cognitive, mental, emotional, and social behavioral growth of Deaf students.
The After School Program (ASP) Teacher Aides use American Sign Language (ASL) as the primary means of communication with students to facilitate the learning process daily and must work with the students to ensure their needs are adequately met. They prep, help, plan, and implement daily activities. They are responsible for checking daily ASP attendance with the school secretary, parent notes, and ensuring students are picked up accordingly. Throughout ASP, they oversee activities, supervision, safety, and conflict intervention/resolution of all students involved. If a field trip is arranged, they are responsible to drive students there, supervise, and drive them back to school. At the end of each day, they are responsible for cleaning up After School Program area or other sites used before leaving work. When necessary, they are responsible to communicate with parents of After School Program students about upcoming activities or daily behavior.
