Job summary

Little Sprouts, LLC is seeking an After-School Assistant Counselor to support elementary students with supervision, activities, and homework help in our after-school program. The role emphasizes safety, inclusion, and collaboration with Site Leaders and families.

The position is part-time (18–20 hours/week) with afternoon hours aligned to the school calendar, offering growth opportunities and a supportive team environment in Massachusetts.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist with homework support and academic enrichment opportunities.
  • Set up, facilitate, and clean up activities, games, crafts, and events.

  • Attend to attendance tracking and sign-in/out procedures.
  • Prepare materials and supplies as needed.
  • Monitor safety and follow all policies and emergency protocols.
  • Maintain staff-to-student ratios and assist with campus walkthroughs.
  • Communicate concerns and achievements to supervisory staff.

As an After-School Assistant Counselor, you will contribute to a positive and enriching learning environment for elementary-aged children. In this role, you will lead engaging activities, ensure student safety and well-being, and foster meaningful partnerships with students, families, and staff to promote a strong sense of community.

What you’ll do
Student Supervision and Engagement
  • Assist in supervising children during after-school hours, including indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Support students in participating in educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.
  • Encourage positive behavior and model respectful interactions.
  • Help create an inclusive environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Assist with homework support and academic enrichment opportunities.
Program Support
  • Help set up, facilitate, and clean up activities, games, crafts, and special events.
  • Support Site Leaders in implementing daily schedules and program plans.
  • Assist with attendance tracking and student sign-in/sign-out procedures.
  • Prepare materials and supplies needed for activities.
Safety and Compliance
  • Monitor students to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
  • Follow all program policies, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Immediately report incidents, injuries, concerns, or behavioral issues to the Site Leader.
  • Maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios at all times.
  • Greeting children at their drop off location and supervise a brief walk to the campus.
Communication and Teamwork
  • Work collaboratively with Site Leaders and other program staff.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and school personnel.
  • Communicate student concerns, achievements, and behavioral observations to supervisory staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and required trainings as assigned.
Required & Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum age of 16 years.
  • Experience working with children in educational, recreational, camp, childcare, or youth development settings preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to take initiative and ownership.
Preferred Skills & Competencies
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification).
  • Knowledge of positive behavior management practices.

Schedule
  • Part-time, approximately 18-20 hours per week.
  • Typical hours are Monday through Friday during after-school program hours.
  • Occasional attendance at staff meetings, training sessions, and special events may be required.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move throughout the school for prolonged periods, including standing and walking for up to 75 percent of the workday.
  • Ability to transition between sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and squatting throughout the day to engage with children and support staff.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and move items up to 30 pounds, including classroom materials, supplies, and occasional assistance with children’s belongings.
  • Ability to sit on the floor, engage at a child’s eye level, and participate in age-appropriate activities including light running, outdoor play supervision, and interactive learning experiences.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, sometimes noisy environment with frequent interruptions and regular movement between indoor and outdoor spaces.
  • Ability to supervise children on playgrounds, in classrooms, hallways, entryways, and common areas.
  • Ability to respond quickly and safely in emergency situations, including evacuations, drills, and urgent classroom needs.
  • Ability to follow and model all safety procedures.

Compliance Statement

This position requires strict adherence to all Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) licensing regulations for Group and School Age Child Care Programs (102 CMR 7.00), as well as company policies and procedures.

All employees must complete a background check as required by the Department of Early Education and Care.

Salary Range & Description

$18 - $21 an hour

Salary Range: $18.00-$21.00 per hour for qualified candidates.

The compensation range represents Little Sprouts' intention for this position. Actual offers may vary based on experience, education, and other business factors.
