Job summary

Kennesaw State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of History in the History and Philosophy Department, specializing in African History. The anticipated start date is August 2027, and the nine-month position is based on our Kennesaw, GA campus.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students, and contribute to research and service initiatives. A Ph.D.

Qualifications

• An earned Terminal/Doctorate degree, or the foreign equivalent, in History, or a closely related discipline, is required at the time of hire.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, mentorship, and promoting student success at the university level, such as, but not limited to, teaching experience in undergraduate African history courses.
• Demonstrated potential for research and scholarship within the discipline, such as, but not limited to, peer-reviewed publications, academic presentations, and external funding applications.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in service to the college, university, profession, and/or community

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in History, Interdisciplinary Studies, and/or Conflict Management, including Conflict in Africa, African history, world history, historical methods, research seminars and related courses.
• Mentor graduate students in KSU's International Conflict Management and Interdisciplinary Studies programs.
• Produce and disseminate high-quality, meaningful scholarship in history or a closely related field
• Pursue external funding to support research and scholarship
• Serve the Department/College/University/professional community
