Job summary

Astro Mechanica seeks a Propulsion Technician to join our on-site manufacturing and prototyping team in San Francisco. You will craft high‑performance components, turning cutting‑edge designs into flight‑ready hardware through precision fabrication and problem‑solving.

The role emphasizes hands‑on building, working with materials, sheet metal, and welding while collaborating with engineering to push the boundaries of aerospace technology.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on fabrication in aerospace, automotive, motorsports or fast-paced manufacturing environments.
• Welding of multiple alloys; certification is a strong plus.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&ID, electrical schematics.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of materials, joining methods.
• Capable of lifting 35 pounds and standing for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design and engineering to optimize manufacturability and preserve structural integrity.
• Support prototype builds and rapid iteration from concept to test article.
• Maintain test facilities, troubleshoot equipment and ensure site cleanliness.
• Monitor inventory of equipment, supplies, and instrumentation.
• Operate manual machine shop tools (drills, mills, lathes) and fabricate with sheet metal.
• Perform material joining (GTAW welding, brazing, soldering, mechanical fastening).
• Assemble harnesses and fluid systems, tube routing and swaging.
• Move heavy objects using forklift and rigging equipment.
• Maintain high safety and quality standards in all work.
