Overview
PPG's Aerospace Business is looking for a Production Supervisor – 2nd shift to join our team in Grand Prairie. This onsite position at our Grand Prairie, TX facility requires a 2nd shift schedule of approximately 1:00pm – 9:30pm Monday through Friday, with potential extended hours or Saturdays as needed. The role reports to the Plant 2 Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Achieves all production objectives through accurate planning to meet production schedules and deliver high-quality products that meet specifications and PPG's standards.
- Supervises the shift production teams and ensures adherence to all company policies and procedures.
- Reviews work instructions to ensure shop floor operators have accurate and complete instructions and, if necessary, recommends changes.
- Identifies and tackles problems related to production process/flow and provides production reports to assist process improvement.
- Coordinates work schedules, staffing requirements, and production sequences to improve efficiency.
- Helps set daily/weekly goals with the scheduling team and communicates any/all blockers.
- Coordinates and communicates requirements with Procurement to ensure materials are purchased or expedited in appropriate quantities and timeframe to meet production needs.
- Completes production plan by scheduling and assigning staffing; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; supervising progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.
- Performs root cause analysis and implements corresponding corrective action plans.
- Coordinates with engineering and other departments to minimize production interruptions.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of aerospace manufacturing supervision experience.
- Knowledge of MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems.
- Experience in manufacturing processes, including lean manufacturing.
- Knowledge of aerospace quality systems (AS9100) and military specifications.
- Understanding of airworthiness requirements and military aerospace standards.
- Experience monitoring, tracking, and continually improving the total cost equation.
- May need to work some Saturdays, minor variation in schedule(s), and additional hours as needed.
- Experience with complex transparency or optical systems manufacturing preferred.
- Experience with fighter aircraft components or defense contracting preferred.
- Knowledge of advanced coatings systems and aerospace transparencies preferred.
