Job summary

Chromalloy in Windsor, CT, seeks a Welding & Brazing Process Engineer to develop, optimize, and sustain welding, brazing, and heat treatment for critical gas turbine components. You will drive process improvement, quality, and production readiness across manufacturing operations.

You will collaborate with maintenance and cross-functional teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient processes, leveraging DMAIC/Lean/Six Sigma methods and documentation practices.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and teamwork across operations, quality, engineering, and maintenance.
  • Experience applying root cause analysis and corrective actions in manufacturing.
  • Background in aerospace manufacturing, MRO, or gas turbine repair is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, qualify, and optimize welding and brazing processes for aerospace components.
  • Establish weld parameters to improve quality, repeatability, throughput, and capability.
  • Maintain and optimize heat treat processes per aerospace specs and customer requirements.
  • Provide engineering support to production, monitor yield, reduce rework, and improve performance.
  • Lead readiness of welding, brazing, and heat treatment equipment for production.
  • Create and maintain process documentation and training materials.
  • Support preventive maintenance and Kaizen/Six Sigma initiatives.

Job Summary

We’re looking for a Welding & Brazing Process Engineer to support the repair and overhaul of critical gas turbine engine components used in commercial aerospace applications. In this role, you will develop, optimize, and sustain welding, brazing, and heat treatment processes that directly impact product quality, performance, turnaround time, and delivery. Your expertise will help ensure the structural integrity and reliability of aerospace components while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop, qualify, and optimize welding and brazing processes for aerospace gas turbine engine components.
  • Establish and improve weld parameters to enhance quality, repeatability, throughput, and process capability.
  • Maintain, monitor, and optimize heat treat processes while ensuring compliance with aerospace specifications and customer requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support for production operations, including monitoring yield, reducing rework, and improving process performance.
  • Perform root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities to address manufacturing and quality concerns.
  • Lead activities to ensure production readiness of welding, brazing, and heat treatment equipment.
  • Design, develop, and implement tooling, fixtures, gauging, and process improvements that support safe and efficient operations.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, operating procedures, process specifications, calibration instructions, training materials, and quality records.
  • Support employee training on equipment operation, process control, and best practices.
  • Partner with maintenance teams to develop and sustain preventive maintenance programs for critical process equipment.
  • Participate in Kaizen events, Lean Manufacturing initiatives, and Six Sigma projects to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Apply DMAIC and structured problem-solving methodologies to drive sustainable process improvements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related science-based discipline such as Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; aerospace manufacturing, MRO, or gas turbine component repair experience preferred.
  • Experience developing, supporting, or optimizing welding, brazing, and/or heat treatment processes.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective action systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience supporting production operations and cross-functional manufacturing teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across operations, quality, engineering, and maintenance functions.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with aerospace alloys, including:
    • Titanium
    • Aluminum
    • Inconel and other nickel-based superalloys
  • Experience with aerospace brazing processes, including:
    • Torch Brazing
    • Furnace Brazing
  • Knowledge of welding process qualification and process control methodologies.
  • Understanding of aerospace heat treatment requirements and metallurgical principles.
  • Knowledge of AMS 2750 and pyrometry requirements.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD software such as Siemens NX.
  • Experience supporting aerospace component repair, overhaul, or manufacturing operations.
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality systems, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments with exposure to production equipment, machinery, and industrial processes.
  • Regular interaction with production areas, laboratories, and repair operations is required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout manufacturing facilities for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety policies and procedures.

This position may require work hours outside of the regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs. This may include work during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Additional work hours are assigned based on business requirements. Non-exempt employees will be paid overtime in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

The salary range for this position reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Individual compensation within the range is determined by multiple factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, job related skills, internal equity, and market conditions.
