Job summary

Honeywell Aerospace in Phoenix is seeking a Failure Analyst - Mechanical Design Engineer II to diagnose aerospace component failures and determine root causes. You will work with engineering to address reliability issues and report to the Engineering Manager on a hybrid schedule.

The role requires a mechanical engineering or materials background, lab analysis experience, and strong communication/documentation skills to support corrective actions and process improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Aerospace Engineering performing problem solving investigations which require laboratory analysis. In lieu of 2 years experience, Master’s degree will be considered.
  • Extensive experience in component failure analysis, metallurgy, and materials engineering.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a collaborative mindset and proactive approach.
  • Familiarity with standardized engineering investigation processes and best practices.
  • Exceptional communication and documentation skills to provide clear explanations and solutions.
  • Experience resolving production process problems in aerospace metals products
  • Experience with aerospace design requirements definition (drawings, specs) where strong knowledge of materials and processes used in aerospace is required
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory techniques to expose fractures, metallography, and electron microscopy.

  • Establish direct cause of failed components and collaborate on root cause and corrective actions.
  • Analyze metallurgy and material behavior under operating conditions.
  • Conclude direct cause of component failure using product knowledge of failure mechanisms.
  • Articulate component failure mechanisms clearly for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve engineering processes.
  • Adhere to MatEng CI processes for consistent investigations.

Job description

As a Failure Analyst - Mechanical Design Engineer II here at Honeywell Aerospace, specializing in investigation aerospace components, you will play a critical role in diagnosing and understanding the cause of failures in various aerospace parts. Your expertise will serve as the backbone for addressing complex business challenges connected to component performance and reliability issues.

You will report directly to our Engineering Manager and you'll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth investigations into the causes of component failures, utilizing advanced engineering principles and methodologies with a team approach.
  • Apply exemplary engineering investigation competencies to establish the direct cause of the failed components and proactively collaborate with the engineering team to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Master the connection between metallurgy and part performance to analyze material behaviors under operational conditions.
  • Use knowledge of material and process failure phenomena to conclude the direct cause of component failure.
  • Leverage detailed knowledge of product functionality to articulate component failure mechanisms comprehensively.
  • Collaboratively engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to proactively solve problems and improve engineering processes.
  • Adhere to standardized Material Engineering Component Investigation (MatEng CI) processes and expectations to ensure consistency and accuracy in investigations.
