Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to lead mechanical designs for satellites and aerospace systems, guiding concepts through qualification and in-orbit support.

The candidate will apply thermal, vibration and EMI/EMC methods alongside CAD/FEA to optimize manufacturability and reliability. Strong communication and collaboration are essential in a cross‑functional team.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
• 2+ years of industry experience in design and analysis of electronics packaging or spacecraft structures.
• Experience with SolidWorks Simulation and CNC manufacturing.
• Familiarity with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, structures and hardware.
• Perform analyses, tolerance studies, and design trade-offs for mechanical engineering activities.
• Review drawings, CAD models, specifications and documentation to support decisions.
• Conduct mechanical testing, verification, qualification and validation activities.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain and operations teams.
• Develop drawings, 3D models, reports, BOMs and engineering change documents.
• Participate in design reviews and product development activities.
• Maintain engineering documentation and configuration-controlled data.
• Apply GD&T, engineering standards and customer requirements; propose improvements.
