Job description

Position Summary

The Aerospace Engineer will ensure that aircraft, spacecraft, or missile systems remain airworthy, safe, and operational when original parts are no longer manufactured. The engineer evaluates structural, electrical, and avionics component lifecycles, designing and testing modifications, qualifiers, and alternative hardware to integrate seamlessly into existing aerospace platforms.

Individual must be able to attain and maintain a valid US Government security clearance to be retained in the position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Apply an understanding of DOD, AF and common engineering/scientific principles, processes and procedures to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future AF and joint service weapon systems.
  • Ability to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, conduct analysis, devise recommended solutions, and package the entire process in briefings, papers, or reports suitable for executive use and decision-making.
  • Demonstrate understanding of MIL-HDBK-516B, Airworthiness Certification Criteria, to aircraft systems and subsystems.
  • Assist in translating user requirements into system requirements, which will be used to design, develop, fabricate, test and evaluate systems, subsystems, and equipment for deployment.
  • Assist with the development of requirements and technology needs into action plans and policies necessary to improve and retain world class manufacturing, operations, re manufacturing and de-militarization/disposal of weapon system capabilities within the USAF.
  • Perform technical/mission analyses of existing and future operational requirements, assist in developing system concepts and perform technological/trade‑off assessments of proposed designs/modifications.
  • Provide rapid response engineering service and support as augmentation to organic resources through in-depth problem identification, impact assessment and development of corrective actions for critical supportability problems.
  • Perform materiel solution analyses leading up to design reviews.
  • Produce or support development of draft documentation and presentation materials as requested or necessitated by programmatic limits based on cost, schedule and performance.
  • Provide support to produce or review products that include technical evaluations/plans; engineering studies, reports and analyses; and acquisition strategies/plans.
  • Develops and collects technical data and inputs for staff summary packages and executive briefings to support coordination and signature of all associated documents for milestone approvals.
  • Supports project team meetings, working groups, and reviews as needed.
  • Analyzes equipment and software deficiencies, make recommendations for equipment and software deficiency corrections, and develop, integrate, and test equipment and software deficiency solutions.
  • Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with co‑workers and customers.
  • Follow policies and procedures as described in corporate manuals and directives.
  • Attend work each day during scheduled work hours unless on approved travel or time off.
  • Perform occasional travel to contractor and customer sites, as required (see WORKING CONDITIONS below).
  • Work flexible hours, including occasional overtime.
  • Carry out other duties as may be assigned or requested.
  • Submit monthly status reports and other information as requested.
  • Comply with requirements of the contract’s Visitor Group Security Agreement (VGSA).
  • Prepare CDRL inputs including the Task Order’s Monthly Status Report.
  • Complete required Government training and certifications.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • ABET‑accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Must obtain and maintain a government security clearance at the required level.
  • SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Secret
Skill & Certification Requirements
  • Understanding of national, DoD, and U.S. Air Force statutory and regulatory policies, directives, and procedures relating to logistics activities.
  • Engineering/scientific principles, processes and procedures of AF and joint service weapon systems.
  • MIL‑HDBK‑516B, Airworthiness Certification Criteria, to aircraft systems and subsystems.
  • Skilled in oral communications necessary to inform the leadership of program changes, to make presentations to management of a complex nature and to lead and serve effectively on process teams.
  • Skilled in written communications to allow effective articulation of assigned tasks and publication of new and updated intelligence products to support acquisition programs.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and work independently with limited supervision all while developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other standard (Customer specified) applications.
  • Must be able to transport self to various facility sites, as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Position requires sitting, for long periods of time. (Sedentary Work)
  • Most duties require extended use of a keyboard and computer monitor.
  • Extended Telephone Use.
  • May require lifting of 25 lbs.
