Job summary

Crane Aerospace & Electronics in Burbank is seeking a Conventional Machinist to set up and operate conventional machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments, fabricate and repair components, and support maintenance of shop equipment.

First shift hours are Monday–Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM, with overtime and occasional weekend work as required; overtime start times may be earlier (e.g., 4:30 AM) to meet demand.

Qualifications

• Able to work quickly and efficiently through Process Improvement structure.
• Good verbal and written communication.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.

Responsibilities

• Machine parts to specifications using conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, or drill presses.
• Communicate with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
• Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measurement instruments.
• Set up, adjust, and operate all of the conventional machine tools, drill presses and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials into machines.
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
• Study sample parts, blueprints, and drawings to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products up to geometric dimensional tolerances.
• Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
• Listen to operating machines or equipment in order to detect machine malfunctions and compensate for problems.
