Job summary

The Hawai‘i Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice in Honolulu seeks a Digital Engagement Specialist to drive online engagement and elevate voices with lived experience. You’ll work with the Director of Community Engagement to support a people-first approach across priority issue areas.

Responsibilities include building a strong social media presence, creating accessible content, and coordinating with coalition partners.

Qualifications

• At least two years of relevant experience in social media management, digital communications, and/or content creation.
• Ability to proactively develop and execute digital campaign strategy.
• Ability to identify and capitalize on relevant social media trends and formats as they gain traction.
• Ability to develop and manage a social media content calendar across multiple platforms.
• Ability to collaborate with policy, communications, and community engagement staff to develop accurate and compelling content.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with major social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
• Proficiency writing video storyboards, video scripts, post captions, interview questions and other social media‑specific kinds of writing.
• Proficiency shooting video and taking photos with iPhone or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Drive Hawaiʻi Appleseed’s social media presence across major platforms with engaging, accessible content.
• Develop a social media strategy and campaigns to expand reach and move audiences to advocacy.
• Identify opportunities to elevate community voices on social media.
• Coordinate with Communications Director for brand integrity and messaging alignment.
• Develop and maintain a social media content calendar aligned with campaigns and legislative cycles.
• Create short-form video content for social media (direct-to-camera, interviews, stories).
• Develop graphics, advertisements, and other digital materials.
• Translate research and policy priorities into accessible social content.
• Build relationships with local content creators and partner organizations.
• Track performance and use data to inform content and strategy.
