Job description

SAE Industry Technologies Consortia (ITC), Performance Review Institute (PRI) and SAE International (SAE), deliver shared solutions to industry's common challenges. Join us and create a higher standard for a better world. The Senior Principal, Aerospace Standards Government & Industry Engagement plays a key role in managing high-level relationships and shaping strategy for the Aerospace Standards program in Washington, DC. In this role, you will represent and promote SAE International's aerospace standards interests with government agencies, industry organizations, and other key stakeholders in the Washington, DC area. You will lead government and industry relations efforts, advance aerospace standards initiatives, and support colleagues across the organization with Washington, DC-based activities. This position has a direct impact on expanding the acceptance and use of SAE standards across the aerospace sector.

Essential Functions
  • Support and promote the SAE Aerospace Standards program in Washington, DC by developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders — including FAA, DoD, NASA, AIA, ALPA, A4A, and GAMA — to increase the acceptance and use of SAE standards by government and industry
  • Explore and identify opportunities in expanding and emerging technologies to support industry standards development in new technical areas
  • Coordinate and support assigned activities and committees to ensure timely and efficient development of aerospace standards and standards-related products and services, including those focused on new technology and innovation
  • Motivate and guide stakeholder leadership involved in Aerospace Standards activities, fostering effective engagement and collaboration across government and industry partners
  • Build and convert a pipeline of government‑funded opportunities that expand SAE standards development into emerging and high‑growth technology areas
Minimum Requirements
  • 10 years of experience in business and/or associations, including at least five years of experience working with government agencies in Washington, DC, or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, engineering (Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical preferred), or a related field
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Proven experience managing high‑level stakeholder relationships
  • Experience in the aerospace industry, operations, or regulatory environment
  • Skilled at high‑level government interface, with the ability to effectively represent an organization in government venues
  • Skilled at engaging with industry organizations and associations
  • Ability to organize, promote, and manage meetings and seminars effectively
  • Understanding of the consensus standards development process
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and standard office applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to assimilate information and identify opportunities and challenges related to government and industry policy is preferred
  • A strong understanding of government perspectives and a solid understanding of aerospace industry perspectives is a plus
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This position operates in a standard office environment. The role requires the ability to work for extended periods at a computer or desk, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Domestic and international travel is required approximately 40% of the time to support government and industry engagement, attend meetings, and represent the organization at relevant events and venues.

This position may be performed on a hybrid or remote basis, depending on organizational needs and role requirements. Candidates should be prepared to work on‑site or travel as business needs dictate.
