Job summary

Tech Valley Talent is seeking an Advisor with wholesale power market expertise to work on NYISO-related regulatory reform and market design initiatives in Albany, NY. This 24-month role requires hybrid work with frequent NYISO meetings and close collaboration with regulatory stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in energy policy, tariffs, and stakeholder engagement, supporting rapid policy analysis and executive briefings for decision-makers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field (Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Regulatory Law).
• Direct experience with NYISO process, DPS process, TO process, or NYISO/DPS governance preferred.
• NERC reliability coordinator certification a plus.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and attend NYISO committees.
• Persistently establish and hone stakeholder relationships with NYISO and DPS stakeholders.
• Perform rapid-response policy analysis for market reforms.
• Evaluate and report on reliability studies affecting the NYISO market.
• Assess market design and pricing impacts under regulatory changes.
• Author routine and ad-hoc executive report-outs for leadership.
• Lead inter-agency coordination efforts.
• Contribute to the Policy, Analysis, & Research team’s key outcomes.

Job description

Tech Valley Talent (TVT) has a great long-term role for an Advisor with wholesale power market skills - energy regulators and tariffs.

DURATION: 24 Months

LOCATION: Albany, NY- Hybrid - working remote but attending 2-4 meetings per week at NYISO - therefore individuals must be located in the Albany, NY area

SCHEDULE: 37.5 HOUR WORK WEEK

START DATE: Targeting January 4, 2027

Our client is expanding their NYISO engagement as they work on the EIDP given the need for

closer coordination/alignment and need to actively shape the proposed market reforms.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree (B.S. or B.A.) or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Regulatory Law, Public Policy, or a related field. Preferred: direct experience with NYISO process, DPS process, TO process, or any other stakeholder of the NYISO/DPS governance process. NERC reliability coordinator certification a plus.
• Fundamental to advanced understanding of: Wholesale power markets (capacity, energy, ancillary services), energy regulators / tariffs, transmission/generation interconnection, transmission & reliability planning, index RECs, stakeholder relationship building, technical writing, executive briefings, data analytic tools

Nice-to-have skills:

• NYISO tariffs, DPS proceedings, cluster study process, IBR performance and technical understanding, capacity accreditation and ELCC, wholesale capacity market resets (DCR), NYSERDA contract mechanics, direct experience

IT Systems that will be used:

• Primarily Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
• DPS DMM (Document and Matter Management System)

Day-to-Day tasks
