Job summary

Adventureland in Altoona, IA is seeking a Rides Supervisor to assist the Rides Manager in supervising the rides Host team and ensuring safe, efficient operation of park rides. The role includes auditing safety policies, maintaining guest experiences, and covering ride positions as needed.

The ideal candidate has 1+ years of supervisory experience in a theme park environment and must complete the iROC certification as part of training. Flexible scheduling, weekends, and holidays are required.

Rides Supervisor

The Rides Supervisor will assist in the supervision of the rides Host working throughout the amusement park. This position directly supports the Rides Manager with efficient operation of the department which provides a positive guest experience. This position’s duties include – but are not limited to – assisting with the management of the department, supervising, monitoring, and attending to park rides, including boarding, securing passengers, operating rides, and ensuring passengers exit safely. This position will also conduct daily audits to ensure sure the park’s safety and operating policies are being properly followed.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily operations of the Rides team and any other assigned departments
• Lead by example, attitude, and as a representation of Adventureland core values
• Act as an approachable mentor and coach to all assigned Host
• Become knowledgeable of performing the essential duties of all rides positions and backfill these positions when needed
• Participate in all aspects of supervision of assigned hosts, including hiring, orientation, training, performance coaching, and discipline
• Ensure that all required meal and other breaks are being given in accordance with Iowa law
• Assist with team scheduling and timekeeping activities

Departmental Duties

• Maintains a vast knowledge of a group of rides in a designated zone of the park and be able to step in at an attraction when necessary
• Ensures that attractions open and close at the proper times established by the operational needs of the day
• Provides direct support to other rides Host by making rounds throughout the park to check on their needs
• Manages guest feedback and escalates complaints or issues to the proper authorities, when appropriate
• Provides coverage so that Host may take bathroom breaks
• Enforces Park policies, ride restrictions and ride recommendations
• Ensures safe operation of the ride by always adhering to standard operating procedures and established trainings
• Maintains a sense of calmness and professionalism during tense, escalated or emergency situations
• Reports ride related issues and failures to management promptly
• Maintains constant vigilance to proactively identify potential hazards and informs park leadership of any concerns
• Promptly notifies the security team or the park operator of Host and guest injuries or emergencies
• All other duties assigned by leadership

Education & Experience

There is no minimum education requirement. 1+ years of previous supervisory experience desired 1+ season of work experience in the Rides Department is required. Previous ride operation experience from other Amusement/Theme Park employers will also be considered. All Rides Host must go through the International Ride Operator Certification (iROC) course as a part of the training. Successful course completion is required for this position. There is no cost to the Host for the course.

Languages

Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.

• Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with Iowa Child Labor Laws
• Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to comply with all uniform policies
• Must possess safety-oriented mindset and understand the importance of complying with all Federal, State, and local regulations regarding ride operation
• Must demonstrate a willingness to learn and ability to follow instructions
• Must be guest-focused and also work well with other Host and supervisors

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, twist, kneel, bend, or squat for long periods of time
• Ability to reach above shoulders throughout the workday
• Ability to remain on feet for majority of the workday
• Ability to climb or descend stairs for some coasters, rides, and attractions
• Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 30 pounds or more
• Ability to see details of objects that are more than a few feet away
