Job summary

Withywindle Adventure School is seeking Adventure Club Teachers to join our outdoor education team in Sacramento. You will facilitate, design seasonal curriculum, and accompany children on field activities, including transporting them in the school van and ensuring a safe, engaging environment.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up students in the Withywindle van and transport them safely to and from Adventure Club locations.
  • Help design and implement meaningful, seasonal curriculum inspired by children's interests, questions, and the natural world.
  • Lead the daily rhythm with confidence while adapting quickly.
  • Assess outdoor sites each day for potential hazards and maintain a safe environment for exploration.
  • Foster a warm, inclusive, child-centered community where every child feels seen and valued.
  • Prepare and organize curriculum materials and supplies.
  • Help maintain the Withywindle van, outdoor equipment, curriculum materials, and weather gear.
  • Keep accurate attendance and communicate with families and the Program Director as needed.
  • Participate in planning meetings and contribute ideas for the growth of Adventure Club.

About the Role

Adventure Club Teachers are group facilitators, curriculum designers, van drivers, watercolor carriers, risk assessors, storytellers, and snake spotters. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe environment for children to truly be themselves outside!

We are looking for teachers who love to get dirty, can tell the difference between a risk and a hazard, know how to lead with warmth, kindness, and care, and are ecstatically, deeply in love with nature. You should be patient, adaptable, and able to balance a child’s desire for independence with clear, calm leadership.

Because Adventure Club is still growing, there is potential for additional hours and leadership opportunities!

Schedule
  • Class is in session M-Th 1:30-6:30
  • Seasonal, Part-Time (we run 3, 10 week sessions during the school year)
  • 16 - 25 hours per week
  • Summer camp opportunities are available but not required!
Compensation

$22 to $25 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications
  • A genuine love of children and spending time outdoors in all seasons.
  • Knowledge of child development through formal education, professional experience, or lived experience.
  • A commitment to inclusive, relationship-based, child-centered education.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable hiking up to one mile while carrying supplies for an outdoor classroom.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and willingness to drive the Withywindle van.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Background in environmental education, ecology, biology, or natural history.
  • Experience with outdoor education, forest schools, camps, or nature-based programs.
  • Wilderness First Aid, CPR, or First Aid certification.
  • Experience developing curriculum or leading project-based learning.
