You will operate advanced water treatment processes, monitor SCADA, maintain facilities, and ensure regulatory compliance to help provide a drought-resilient water supply for the city.

The role requires 3–5 years in wastewater/advanced water treatment, a CA Driver’s License, and SWRCB Grade II or higher certification.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in wastewater/advanced water treatment operations.
  • SWRCB Grade II or higher Water/Wastewater Operator Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Operates valves, pumps, and gates via local control center (SCADA).
  • Maintains facilities, office buildings, vehicles, and equipment for advanced water treatment operation; ensures general housekeeping.
  • Observes operating conditions and records readings; makes necessary process control adjustments.
  • Performs routine in-plant lab sampling and analysis; conducts inspections and sample collection.
  • Prepares technical and administrative reports as requested.
  • Establishes cooperative relationships with client employees, vendors, and the public.

Under the general direction of the Chief Plant Operator, the Advanced Water Treatment Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation to maintain regulatory compliance and maintain production.


Join our advanced water treatment facility in Santa Monica, CA as an Advanced Water Treatment Operator of the Sustainable Water Infrastructure Program (SWIP). SWIP provides a drought resilient water supply for the City of Santa Monica by producing up to 1,680 acre-feet per year of advanced treated recycled water through the advanced water treatment facility, stormwater harvesting, and upgrades to the Santa Monica Urban Runoff Recycling Facility. Treatment process include membranes, cartridge filters, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet advanced oxidation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Operates valves, pumps, and gates manually and/or through local control center (SCADA).

  • Maintains facilities, office building, vehicles, equipment, and pump stations for advanced water treatment operation. Responsible for general housekeeping of job sites, work areas, and other areas as assigned including heavy labor, as needed.

  • Observes variations in operating conditions, records meter, sensor and gauge readings. Able to make necessary process control adjustments.

  • Performs routine in-plant lab sampling and analysis, conducts inspections, and collects samples.

  • Conduct routine rounds of assigned process areas and records operating data such as run times, chemical usage, flows, and other process information.

  • Records operating data in shift logs and perform mathematical calculations.

  • Supports preventative maintenance of water quality analyzers and instruments.

  • Prepares technical and administrative reports, as requested.

  • Able to climb stairs and ladders, and endure prolonged walking and standing.

  • Able to safely and properly operate hand tools, power tools, and motorized equipment as trained and assigned.

  • Develop a commitment to personal safety and the safety of co-workers.

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships client employees, vendors, and the public.

  • Able to work weekends, holidays, and shift work, as assigned, under a variety of safe weather & working conditions.


Here’s what you’ll need


  • Must have and maintain a valid CA Driver’s License with no major infractions.

  • A minimum of 3-5 year of experience in wastewater/advanced water treatment operations.

  • SWRCB Grade II or higher Water / Wastewater Operator Certification.


Ideally, you'll also have:


  • Advanced Water Treatment Grade III certification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of wastewater and advanced water treatment plant operations.

  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to wastewater and advanced water treatment system operations.

The base salary range for this position is $92,700.00 to $103,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
