Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing in Walker, MI, is seeking an Advanced Tooling Engineer to drive tooling and gage work from quoting to production, ensuring parts meet specifications on time. This role supports GD&T, tool design, and supplier coordination, and requires a proven track record in tooling or sheet metal stamping, plus a engineering degree.

The position is on 1st shift, M-F, at our corporate office/plant.

Qualifications

  • Minimum six years’ experience in Tool and Die Build/Design or Sheet Metal Stamping.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline preferred.
  • Experience coordinating tool design, builds, and GD&T required.

Responsibilities

  • Support creation of GD&T and coordinate tool design, build and reviews.
  • Create SOWs and manage supplier quotes; release tooling to production.
  • Track die/gage shop schedules and ensure on-time completions.
  • Attend open issues meetings and report tooling status and part quality.
  • Verify part quality throughout the program for each build.

Being part of an ESOP means our employee-owners share in Challenge’s success!Challenge is #QualityDriven and #PeoplePowered!Who We Want:The Advanced Tooling Engineer will work as a part of a launch team and will follow the die tooling and gages from the quoting phase to the production phase, ensuring that part specifications and deadlines are met for the successful buildup of assemblies and providing 100% quality stampings to our customers.What You’ll Do:Supports the creation of GD&T.Responsible for coordinating tool design, tool build, tool design reviews, sample requirements, reviewing part layouts, ordering try out steel, and archiving tool CAD data.Create SOWs and receives signed SOWs back from suppliers.Following Tooling and Component Gages from PO to home line buyoff and beyond.Approvals / Check sheets to be filled out prior to shipping (to die shop for gages, or in house for dies) to ensure Challenge specifications are met for tooling and gages.Supports pre-source meetings with selected Suppliers ensuring quotes are correct prior to release.Provide release level Data and GD&T to selected suppliers.Maintaining tooling project schedules by reviewing die shop and gage shop schedules / timelines to ensure due dates are met.Track weekly open issues and ensure open issue closure in a timely manner.Verify and report the part quality throughout the program for each build requirement (drive to nominal).Attend Weekly Open Issues Meetings to report Die and Gage Status (timing/change levels/part quality/part status for build events).When and Where:This will be a 1st Shift, M-F position located at our corporate office/plant in Walker, MI.What You Need to Have:High School Diploma or GED (required).Minimum six years’ experience in Tool and Die Build/Design or Sheet Metal Stamping or equivalent education and experience (required).Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline (preferred).
