Job description

Basic Function And Responsibility

The Department of Internal Medicine at University of Iowa Health Care seeks a 100% time Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to provide direct patient care within the Infusion Suite of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. The ARNP will exercise autonomy in medical decision‑making and deliver services as an Advanced Practice Nurse and change agent, supporting the primary role of Nurse Practitioner and the consulting, educational, research, and administrative roles necessary to promote quality care and positive patient outcomes for HCCC and Infusion Suite patients.

Characteristic Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assure clinical competency and expertise in relevant specialties.
  • Function independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for Infusion Suite and HCCC patients.
  • Provide outpatient clinical care and same‑day appointments as directed.
  • Assess and treat patients experiencing reactions to chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and blood products.
  • Order medications, administer drugs, and manage patients during infusion services.
  • Collaborate with nursing and clinical staff, along with administration, to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.
  • Determine clinical care requirements based on patient condition and age, following universal precautions.
  • Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients and families.
  • Document patient assessment and plans of care in the medical record and generate health reports for outgoing correspondence.
  • Act as a consultative resource, sharing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Infusion Suite and other prescribers, while working directly with patients.
  • Support daily operations of the Infusion Suite and help develop processes to improve workflow and patient experiences.
  • Create and oversee patient care plans in collaboration with prescribers and physicians.
  • Participate in the development, utilization, and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs.
  • Provide education and serve as a resource to nursing staff in areas of clinical expertise.
  • Generate research questions regarding health care for specific patient populations.
  • Participate in development and implementation of departmental quality assessment and improvement programs.
  • Handle administrative activities and special projects as assigned.
  • Contribute toward the achievement of organizational goals.
  • Participate in and contribute to activities that enhance clinical expertise and knowledge.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Establish and uphold standards of collaborative interaction, respect, honesty, and service among peers and employees.
  • Inspire and motivate others toward high performance, exercising stewardship of University resources, setting expectations, measuring success through performance evaluations, and driving organizational results.
  • Identify opportunities and create development plans that encourage staff growth and professional capacity.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree required; a Master's in Nursing preferred. If the Master’s is in a related field, a Bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
