Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska seeks a Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner focused on psychiatry within the ambulatory/clinic setting. Qualifications

  • ANCC certification or eligibility for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Experience using an electronic medical record system.
  • Current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized medical care in ambulatory/clinic setting with history, exam, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Deliver psychiatric health services, education, counselling, and emotional support.
  • Demonstrate age-specific competencies in care provision.
  • Order diagnostics and use results to guide treatment decisions.
  • Perform procedures such as I&D, splinting, suturing, or minor lesion removal where appropriate.
  • Document visits thoroughly in the electronic medical record.
  • Order pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments for acute conditions.
  • Respond to onsite emergencies and provide care until EMS arrives.
  • Educate patients and families and provide discharge instructions.
  • Consult with physicians and hospitalists as needed.
  • Note: other duties may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

Job description

Provides medical services to patients in an ambulatory or a clinic setting.

SCHEDULE: 4 hour/week commitment, 2 holidays per year and some weekend rotation.

Same Day Pediatrics Hours:

M-F 6p-10p

Sat/Sun 12p-10p

Holidays 12p-6p

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Provides individualized medical care to patients in the ambulatory clinic setting which includes collection of relevant patient history, physical and/or mental health assessment, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Psychiatry Clinic Assignment: Provides psychiatric health services, education, counselling, and emotional support.
  • Demonstrates age specific competencies in the provision of care.
  • Orders necessary diagnostic tests relevant to patient condition and utilizes results to determine appropriate treatment for the patient.
  • Performs procedures such as I&D, splinting, suturing, or simple lesion (wart) removal, based on knowledge, skills and abilities, as applicable to clinical area.
  • Completes timely, thorough documentation of the patient visit in the electronic medical record.
  • Orders pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments indicated in management of the acute illness or health condition.
  • Responds to onsite emergencies and provides prompt, and appropriate care until EMS arrives.
  • Provides relevant education and discharge instructions to the patient/family related to the acute presenting illness or health condition and need for follow-up.
  • Consults with physician and hospitalists as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families and staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver care in the clinic setting.
  • Ability to identify and address the age specific needs of the patients served.
  • Ability to work autonomously while recognizing when to consult with other members of the health care team.
  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in nursing with previous clinical experience in a health care setting required.
  • Licensed as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska required.
  • Psychiatry Clinic assignment: ANCC certification (or eligibility to take exam) as a Psychiatric mental health Nurse Practitioner required.
  • Experience using an electronic medical record required.
  • CPR certification required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a primary care/ambulatory care/urgent care preferred; for the Same Day Pediatrics CLinic, minimum of three years of APRN experience in an ambulatory and/or urgent care preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.Requires up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
