The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is recruiting an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse LTE position headquartered at Jackson Correctional Institution in Black River Falls, WI. Applicants must be a Wisconsin resident and available for up to 1039 hours in 12 months.

The Nurse Practitioner will deliver preventive and primary care to incarcerated adults, collaborating with the Health Services Unit to develop care protocols.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain an active and unrestricted Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license, in the Nurse Practitioner role with eligibility for prescriptive authority, in Wisconsin, or another state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
• Applicants must have a valid personal DEA number.
• Applicants must have and maintain certification in BLS by the American Heart Association and training in the use of the AED and have the ability to perform BLS and/or first aid to prevent loss of life and relieve suffering until appropriate care arrives.
• Applicants must be enrolled, or be eligible for enrollment, in Wisconsin Medicaid as a provider.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive preventive and primary care to well and ill incarcerated adult populations.
• Demonstrate clinical expertise in providing preventive and primary care in the correctional setting.
• Educate Persons in Our Care to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health, and intervene in acute and chronic illness.
• Collaborate with all disciplines and participate in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of care and education programs.

The Department of Corrections is recruiting to fill a Advanced Practice Registered Nurse LTE position. This position will be headquartered at Jackson Correctional Institution in Black River Falls, WI. Applicants must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin in order to be considered. LTE positions are limited to working a total of 1039 hours over a period of 12 months.

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced professional nurse who is responsible for the provision of comprehensive care to well and ill incarcerated adult populations. The practitioner demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in providing preventive and primary care in the correctional setting. This practitioner educates Persons in Our Care to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health, and intervene in acute and chronic illness. This practitioner will function independently in managing the direct and indirect care of incarcerated individuals in collaboration with all disciplines employed or practicing at the institutional Health Services Unit. The practitioner will participate in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of care and education programs and protocols used by the health care staff to meet the needs of incarcerated individuals who exhibit health problems across the continuum from prevention to complex medical and/or psychiatric conditions.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 11-11 with a starting pay rate of $45.55/hour - $62.96/hour

Limited Term Employees must be residents of the State of Wisconsin.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

This position is not eligible for remote work.

Shift: Two ten hour days (dayshift). Days of the week to be determined upon hire.
