Job summary

Children’s Mercy Kansas City is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the abdominal transplant team within the Division of Transplant Surgery. The PA will participate in a dynamic clinical and surgical practice in an educational setting with medical students, fellows, and residents.

If desired, research involvement will be supported through the new CMRI. The Brendan Tripp Elam Transplant Center offers heart, liver, and kidney programs with a collaborative team focused on exceptional patient

Qualifications

  • Master's degree required with 1–2 years of surgical experience preferred.
  • Skillful use of the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Preferred in specialty practice and/or pediatrics.

Overview

The Division of Transplant Surgery, within the Department of Surgery, is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our abdominal transplant team, a group of professionals who are committed to providing excellent care in a supportive environment. The candidate accepting this position will contribute to an active clinical and surgical practice in an education setting including medical students, surgery fellows, and residents. If desired, a research interest will be fostered by the division and in conjunction with the new, state-of-the-art Children’s Mercy Research Institute.

The Brendan Tripp Elam Transplant Center at Children’s Mercy Kansas City was established in 2014.The CMS approved pediatric Heart, Liver and Kidney Transplant programs come together with the goal of obtaining national recognition in solid organ transplant, with a reputation that fosters and advances the scientific and industry knowledge base of organ transplantation. Physician Assistants II (PA-II) provide proficient, comprehensive health care services to a defined patient population; obtaining the health history; performing a physical examination, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures; formulating and implementing a plan of care; and participating in patient and family education. Each PA II demonstrates commitment to professional leadership and provides leadership for quality & outcomes improvement activities, clinical research or evidence based practice, and organizational development.

Responsibilities

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Required and 1-2 years surgical experience preferred. Skillful use of the electronic health record (EHR). Preferred in specialty practice and/or pediatrics
  • Licensed Physician Assistant KS
  • Licensed Physician Assistant MO
  • Successful completion of the NCCPA Certification Exam Required Upon Hire
  • PA certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and Physician Assistant (PA) Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
