Job summary

Intermountain Health's Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City seeks an inpatient Advanced Practice Provider to cover Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant for patients from newborns to young adults.

You will collaborate with physicians and a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans, manage chemotherapy and supportive therapies, perform procedures, and participate in quality improvement and research while supporting families through complex treatment journeys.

Qualifications

• Utah license as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
• Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Utah Controlled Substance License.
• Federal DEA registration for Schedules II–V.
• Current PALS and BLS certification for healthcare providers.
• Preferred: Pediatric hematology/oncology or bone marrow transplant experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess and manage hospitalized pediatric Hematology, Oncology, BMT, and immunology patients, including new transplant and immunology consultations.
• Develop, implement, and adjust individualized care plans with the multidisciplinary team.
• Order and manage chemotherapy, infusions, prescriptions, supportive care, and monitoring.
• Recognize and treat disease- and therapy-related complications and respond to clinical changes.
• Perform procedures such as lumbar punctures, bone marrow aspirates/biopsies, and skin biopsies.
• Coordinate services, home care needs, follow-up, discharge planning, and transitions of care.
• Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families.
• Participate in quality improvement, staff education, and department research.

About the role

As an inpatient Advanced Practice Provider, your primary focus will be the Hematology and Oncology service, with cross-coverage for Bone Marrow Transplant as needed. You will provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients from the newborn period through their mid-20s and serve as a consistent clinical resource for patients and families throughout complex treatment journeys.

The program serves families across the Intermountain West and combines multidisciplinary expertise, advanced treatment, and research participation. Our teams contribute to national and international collaborations designed to improve outcomes and expand access to innovative therapies.

What you'll do

• Assess and manage hospitalized pediatric Hematology, Oncology, BMT, and immunology patients, including new transplant and immunology consultations.
• Develop, implement, and adjust individualized care plans in partnership with attending physicians and the multidisciplinary team.
• Order and manage chemotherapy, infusions, prescriptions, supportive care, and treatment-related monitoring within scope and privileges.
• Recognize and treat disease- and therapy-related complications and respond to changes in clinical condition.
• Perform procedures such as lumbar punctures, bone marrow aspirates and biopsies, and skin biopsies.
• Coordinate consulting services, home care needs, follow-up, discharge planning, and safe transitions of care.
• Provide clear, compassionate education and guidance to patients and families.
• Participate in quality improvement, staff education, clinical initiatives, and department research.

Schedule and practice environment

This is a 24/7 inpatient service. APPs work 12-hour shifts with a rotating mix of weekdays, weekends, nights, and holidays. The schedule supports continuous specialty coverage and close collaboration across the Hematology, Oncology, and BMT teams.

What you'll bring

• Utah license as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
• Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

• Preferred: Clinical experience in pediatric hematology, oncology, bone marrow transplant, cellular therapy, or another high-acuity pediatric specialty.

We are especially interested in experienced pediatric APPs who bring strong clinical judgment, confidence in interdisciplinary practice, and a commitment to supporting children and families through complex care. APPs with substantial pediatric acute‑care experience or prior Hem/Onc/BMT experience may also be considered.
