Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to lead the enteral access team, coordinating placement and care for long-term enteral access (DHT, g tubes, g-j tubes) and collaborating with IR and GI specialists. You will perform examinations, develop care plans, and participate in quality initiatives.

The NST APP role includes inpatient and outpatient procedures, patient education, and coordination with multiple teams to improve outcomes and evidence-based practice

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in nursing or ARC-PA PA program required.
  • Licensure as APRN or PA with prescriptive authority as applicable per Texas rules.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive patient assessments and document findings.
  • Develop and evaluate patient care plans using evidence-based data.
  • Coordinate enteral access placement and related procedures.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families.
  • Participate in quality initiatives and clinical research protocols.

JOB SUMMARY

The NST APP assists leads the enteral access team which manages consults for enteral access placement to recommend and coordinate placement for long term enteral access - this includes DHT, surgical g tubes, g-j tubes, and coordination of care with other enteral access teams. (IR, GI) Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status. The NST APP will assist with minor inpatient and outpatient procedures including tube care, DHT placement, and g-tube exchanges. Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures. Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
Education
  • Master's degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. OR
  • Graduate of a Master's degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. OR
  • Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. AND
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
Preferred
  • Experience 1 year relevant clinical experience.
JOB DUTIES
  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
  • Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
