Job Description:

The Advanced Practice Provider will work collaboratively with surgeons and clinical staff to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a multi-specialty surgical practice. The APP will provide comprehensive services in an inpatient hospital setting, supporting the continuum of care from initial consultation through post-operative management. The APP serves as a clinical leader, promoting evidence-based practice, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the practice's quality, safety, and patient satisfaction goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist in pre-operative evaluations, risk assessments, perioperative optimization, and discharge coordination.
  • Provide thorough patient education regarding procedures, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and navigator, helping patients understand surgical pathways, timelines, and recovery expectations.
  • Participate in after-hours and weekend call coverage as assigned by the practice.
  • Respond to and participate in trauma activations, assisting with the evaluation, stabilization, and ongoing management of trauma patients in collaboration with the surgical team.
  • Conduct daily inpatient rounds and participate in multidisciplinary rounds to assess patient status, develop and modify treatment plans, and coordinate care.
  • Provide inpatient clinical support to general surgery patients, including evaluation, treatment planning, post-operative management, and discharge coordination.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nursing, case management, and other disciplines to facilitate continuity of care and timely progression toward discharge.
  • Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests and imaging; adjust care plans accordingly.
  • Prescribe medications and manage ongoing treatment in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Perform procedures within the scope of licensure and clinical need.
  • Support operations through timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), care coordination, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care across all surgical specialties.
  • Participate in clinical audits, safety initiatives, and quality improvement projects to enhance surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with billing teams to ensure appropriate coding and documentation for surgical procedures.
  • Participate in clinical research, data collection, or quality improvement initiatives to advance surgical outcomes and practice efficiency.
  • Mentor and precept nursing or physician assistant students, fostering clinical education and professional growth.
  • Engage in continuing education and professional development to maintain licensure and certification standards.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, HIPAA, OSHA, and Joint Commission standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Advanced knowledge of clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, perioperative care, and post-operative management in an inpatient surgical setting.
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, including the ability to recognize changes in patient condition and elevate care appropriately.
  • Knowledge of surgical principles, diagnostic testing, imaging, pharmacology, medication management, and potential surgical complications.
  • Ability to independently evaluate and manage patients within an established scope of practice while collaborating effectively with surgeons and multidisciplinary care teams.
  • Strong communication and patient education skills, with the ability to clearly explain diagnoses, procedures, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple patients and competing clinical needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in EMR documentation and knowledge of applicable regulatory, patient safety, infection prevention, coding, and compliance requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life
