Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Emergency Department seeks an Advanced Practice Provider to deliver comprehensive pediatric care in a 24/7 open department. You will perform history and physical exams, order tests, develop treatment plans, and educate patients and families within a collaborative team.

The role emphasizes professional development, clinical leadership, and quality improvement across inpatient and ambulatory settings in a dynamic pediatric environment.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Georgia or GA APRN/PA licensure.
• Certification as an APRN/PA by GA board; ANCC/AANP/PNCB/NCCPA credentials.
• BLS certification required on hire.
• PALS certification within 60 days for eligible roles.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive patient care management for children in inpatient and ambulatory settings under physician supervision.
• Perform histories and physicals, identify normal/abnormal findings.
• Order and interpret labs and diagnostics; develop treatment plans.
• Educate patients and families; coordinate referrals as needed.
• Collaborate with physicians and health-care teams; support quality improvement.

Job Description

The Emergency Department at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta serves children, teens, and young adults and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will deliver comprehensive care at an advanced practice level, including assessment, communication, clinical management, collaboration, coordination, education, program development, research, quality improvement, professional development, and system participation.

Experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in pediatric healthcare preferred
• Doctorate degree in Nursing Practice or Master’s or Doctorate degree in Medical Science

Education

• Master’s degree in nursing or bachelor’s degree in medical science

Certification Summary

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Georgia (single state) or Multi‑State Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact with Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in Georgia, or licensure as a Physician Assistant in Georgia
• Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Program (AANP), Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Certification as Family Nurse Practitioner may be acceptable with CNO approval.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 60 days of hire for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Anesthesia, Hematology/Oncology, and Critical Care. Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants in Neonatology may provide NRP certification in lieu of PALS.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient knowledge of Georgia Scope of Practice for NPs and/or PAs, Joint Commission regulatory requirements, and Credentialing process of NPs and PAs
• Excellent communication (written, spoken & presentation), organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrates personal and professional integrity; collaborative and respectful behavior; flexibility and willingness to change

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive patient care management within a collaborative practice model for children of all ages under the supervision of the supervising/collaborating physician within the scope of practice outlined by state statute and Children’s bylaws in inpatient and/or ambulatory settings.
• Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams and identify normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
• Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
• Develop pharmaceutical and non‑pharmaceutical treatment plans.
• Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, health care professionals, and students.
• Facilitate patient referrals to other medical providers, facilities, and health/social service agencies as needed.
• Collaborate and/or consult with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
